The Road to the Runway: Lesson Zero Overview
Introduction
Welcome to "The Road to the Runway," a guide to getting you ready for your flight training at United Flight Systems. Think of Lesson Zero as a warm-up session, where we tackle your most pressing questions, so you can dive into your first flight lesson with confidence and excitement.
Preparation
Before you even step into the cockpit, there are a few things we need to take care of:
Citizenship Proof: If you're a U.S. citizen, you'll need to show proof. If not, we'll help you complete a TSA training request.
Photo ID: Bring a government-issued photo ID.
Rental Agreement: You'll need to sign the United Flight Systems Rental Agreement.
Student Pilot Certificate: Apply for this certificate through the IACRA website.
Medical Certificate: Get a medical check-up from an FAA Aviation Medical Examiner.
Availability Worksheet: Fill out the New Student Availability Worksheet so we can schedule your first lessons.
Onboarding
Lesson Zero is all about setting the stage for your flight training journey. We’ll cover:
- Your Aviation Goals: What do you want to achieve and by when?
- Our Story: Learn about United Flight Systems' history and mission.
- Training Options: We'll explain the different training paths and what to expect in your lessons.
- Training Syllabus: Get to know the Kings School Cessna Flight Training System syllabus.
- Milestones: Understand key milestones like solo flights, knowledge exams, and check rides.
Student and Instructor Expectations
To ensure smooth sailing, we have a few expectations:
- For Students: Complete study assignments, follow our cancellation policies, and dress appropriately. Take good care of the aircraft.
- For Instructors: They'll supervise your pre- and post-flight activities, check fuel and oil levels, and log your lessons according to the syllabus.
Supplies
Here’s a checklist of what you’ll need:
- Logbook
- Kneeboard
- Textbooks
- Headset
- iPad with ForeFlight (optional)
- Optional: Additional devices for better navigation and weather tracking
Lesson Zero Practical Activities
If time allows, you’ll also get to:
- Tour the airport
- Learn preflight procedures
- Get an introduction to aircraft systems and basic weather concepts
By the end of Lesson Zero, you'll have a solid foundation to start your flight training, armed with the knowledge and resources you need to succeed. Welcome aboard, future pilot!
Road to the Runway
🚫 Cancellation Policy: You are NOT permitted to move or cancel your Hold Short. If you choose to move or cancel your Hold Short Lesson within 72 hours of your scheuduled time, you WILL be subject to a $100 cancellation fee.
📅 Expiration Policy: Your Road to the Runway purchase will expire 180 days after your purchase. Lessons purchased before September 2023 will expire 1 year after purchase.
